Finding Stories in Everyday Moments
Hello, I’m Jessica, the photographer and storyteller behind DutchLensExplorer.
What started as a hobby grew into a passion for capturing the world around me—one photograph, one walk, and one story at a time. Whether I’m exploring a quiet nature trail in the Netherlands, wandering through a historic village on Lesbos, or simply watching the morning light transform a familiar landscape, I always have my camera close by.
Photography helps me slow down and notice the details that many people pass by: reflections on the water, a winding path through the trees, colourful doors in an old village, or the calm beauty of a sunrise. These small moments often tell the biggest stories.
More Than Photography
Outside of photography, I work as a Projectmedewerker Verkiezingen for the municipality of Almere. My work involves helping organise the practical side of elections, ensuring that polling locations, materials and logistics are ready when citizens head to the ballot box.
Alongside my professional life, I am also a caregiver for my housemate, Codee. Balancing work, caregiving and personal interests has taught me the importance of taking time to recharge, appreciate nature and create space for the things that bring joy and perspective.
Why Lesbos Feels Like Home
There is one place that appears again and again in my photography and stories: the Greek island of Lesbos.
Since my first visit in 1999, the island has become much more than a holiday destination. The welcoming people, traditional villages, beautiful landscapes and slower pace of life keep drawing me back. Places such as Petra, Molyvos and Eftalou have inspired countless photographs and memories over the years.
When I’m on Lesbos, camera in hand, I feel connected to both the landscape and the stories that unfold around me.
