Wheelchair-Friendly Days in Zeeland

Traveling is never just about where you go—it’s about how accessible the world feels when you get there.

During our time in Zeeland, we explored different places, each with its own story. Some surprised us in the best way. Others reminded us how much there’s still to improve.

Places like Deltapark Neeltje Jans stood out. Open, informative, and surprisingly accessible. Being able to experience part of the storm surge barrier up close—it felt powerful. Like standing inside a piece of Dutch history, without barriers holding you back.

And then there was Vlissingen.

Wide boulevards, open views, places where moving around felt easy. No second guessing, no constant adjusting. Just space to be. Those are the moments where accessibility fades into the background—and that’s exactly how it should be.

Other places felt different.

Domburg, for example, had charm—but not without effort. Uneven streets, difficult terraces… it’s a place where you need help, patience, and a bit of determination. And while that can still lead to good moments—like a warm welcome at a local restaurant—it also shows how much difference small adjustments could make.

Nature brought its own mix.

The beach offered something special—a way to reach the water with a beach wheelchair. Not easy, not smooth, but possible. And sometimes “possible” is already something worth holding on to.

At Terra Maris, the surroundings were beautiful, but the paths told another story. Heavy, difficult to navigate. A reminder that accessibility isn’t just about entrances—but about the full experience.

And in smaller places—like a tropical zoo or a historic mill—you notice the details. A well-placed ramp. A missing one. A path that works, or just doesn’t. It’s in those details where the experience is shaped.

Looking back, Zeeland gave us a bit of everything.

Moments of ease. Moments of challenge. Moments where things just worked—and moments where you had to make it work yourself.

But above all, it gave us days outside. Fresh air. New places. And shared experiences that matter more than perfect accessibility ever could.

Because in the end, it’s not just about where you can go—

It’s about how you experience it, together. 🤍cessibility tips alongside your story.
