A Walk Filled With Nature, Family & Love

Some days begin quietly and slowly grow into memories you never want to forget. This day before Mother’s Day was exactly one of those days.

Early in the morning, my mother and I headed out together for a 10-kilometer walk starting from the Ontmoetingscentrum Buiten area. Of course, we both brought our cameras along. Photography has a way of making you slow down and truly notice the little details around you.

The route took us through peaceful forest paths, alongside the water, over small bridges, and past open fields filled with flowers and grazing horses. Everywhere we looked, nature seemed alive. The skies constantly changed above us, from soft morning light to dramatic clouds that made every landscape feel different from the last.

Along the way, we stopped many times to capture moments through our lenses — reflections in the water, hidden forest trails, colorful flowers, and the calm atmosphere of the countryside. After around 7 kilometers, there was a small resting point where walkers could enjoy a fresh fruit juice and a piece of fruit before continuing the final part of the route. A simple gesture, but one that made the walk feel even more welcoming.

In total, we completed the walk in about 2.5 hours. It was the perfect start to the day: peaceful, active, and filled with conversation, photography, and fresh air.

What my mother didn’t know during the walk was that a surprise was quietly coming together at home.

While we were still outside enjoying nature, my brother had already arrived at my house and was having lunch with Codee. So when my mother walked through the front door later that day, she suddenly found all of her children together in one place to celebrate Mother’s Day early together.

The afternoon became just as special as the morning. Together we took the dog for another walk, enjoying the beautiful weather and simply spending time together. Later in the evening, we ended the day with dinner at Restaurant De Rede.

It turned into one of those rare days where everything simply felt right — nature, photography, family, laughter, and time together.
