Sometimes, it’s the smallest changes that make the biggest difference.
About three and a half weeks ago, I applied for a stairlift for my housemate. Not knowing how long it would take, we prepared ourselves to wait.
But things moved faster than expected.
Within a week, the municipality reached out. Not long after, someone came by to see our situation—and by coincidence, it was someone who had visited us years before. That familiarity made it easier. The conversation felt natural, open.
We showed her how we live. The adjustments we’ve made ourselves. The way we’ve learned to work around limitations—with a bit of creativity, and a lot of help from the people around us.
At the end of that visit, she simply said: this makes sense.
And sometimes, hearing that is everything.
Not long after, the official confirmation followed. Now we’re waiting for the next step—the measuring, the installation. The moment it becomes real. A simple addition to the house… but one that will change daily life in such a meaningful way.
In the meantime, life continues in its own rhythm.
The service dog journey is still ongoing—slow, but moving forward. There’s a conversation planned, another step, another possibility.
At home, we’re adjusting again. Balance has become a bit more uncertain, meaning extra support indoors is now part of daily life too. Not always easy to accept—but we adapt, as we always do.
And somewhere in between, I’m reminded to take care of myself as well. A few visits to the therapist, loosening what’s been building up over time. Nothing major—but a quiet reminder that care goes both ways.
For now, we wait.
For something small… that will make a big difference.
Step by step. 🤍
