A Day Out – Keukenhof in Bloom

Some days take a bit more planning… but give so much in return.

April 13, 2024 became one of those days.

A long-awaited visit to the Keukenhof—something that had been on Codee’s list for a long time. And this time, everything came together.

The day started early.

A quiet morning routine, preparing step by step, making sure everything was in place before we left. Thermos flasks filled, snacks packed, and with a little help from our neighbours, we were on our way.

Traveling like this is never just “getting there.”

It’s choosing what works best. Taking the slower train so we could move at our own pace. Adjusting where needed. Finding comfort in what feels manageable.

And then—arrival.

The moment you step into the park, everything softens. Colours everywhere, flowers stretching as far as you can see. But before the exploring begins, there’s always one thing first: finding the right rhythm. A quiet start, a moment to sit, something to eat—so the rest of the day can unfold calmly.

Because that’s how we do it.

Not rushed.
Not forced.
Just step by step.

Walking through the gardens came with its challenges. Limited vision, uneven paths, a rollator instead of a wheelchair—but also teamwork. Adjusting, guiding, pausing when needed.

And in between all of that… beauty.

Flowers in every direction. Light, colours, small details that make you stop. And of course—photos. Finding ways to capture the moment, even when it’s not always easy. Creativity finds its way.

The rollator turned out to be exactly what we needed. Not just for movement—but for rest. A moment to pause, take it in, and then continue again.

By the end of the afternoon, we were tired—but in that good way.

The kind of tired that comes from doing something meaningful.

The journey back brought its own small challenges—tight spaces, awkward seating, moments that ask for patience and flexibility. But just like the rest of the day, we found our way through.

And then, home.

Picked up by someone familiar. A quiet ending after a full day.

Looking back, it wasn’t just about the flowers.

It was about what it took to get there.
The choices.
The adjustments.
The teamwork.

And the simple fact that we did it.

A day like this isn’t just an outing—it’s a reminder.

That with the right pace, the right support, and a bit of determination… a lot is still possible.

And yes—this is one we would do again. 🤍
