Het Engelse Werk, Zwolle
This time, the journey took me to Zwolle, where I left the busier streets behind and headed towards Het Engelse Werk.
A Different Side of Zwolle
Het Engelse Werk shows a completely different side of Zwolle. As you walk into the park, the city slowly seems to fade into the background. The atmosphere becomes quieter, greener and much more relaxed.
Paths wind between tall trees, while water and open spaces regularly appear between the greenery. It is the kind of place that naturally makes you slow down — which also makes it a great location for photography.
Instead of searching for one spectacular subject, I found myself paying attention to the smaller scenes around me: the way a path disappears between the trees, reflections on the water, the changing light and the different layers of green throughout the park.
There wasn’t one particular photograph I came here to capture. I simply walked, looked around and photographed the moments and views that stood out to me.
Enjoying the Journey
That is exactly what I want this series to be about.
Travelling by train gives me a destination, but what happens after arriving is much more open. Sometimes that might mean exploring architecture or busy city streets. On another trip, like this one, it means finding a peaceful green area where the camera encourages me to look a little closer at my surroundings. Het Engelse Werk had a wonderfully calm vibe. Even though Zwolle isn’t far away, there were moments when it felt like I had left the city much further behind. And perhaps that’s one of the best things about exploring with a camera: you don’t always have to travel far to discover somewhere that feels completely different.
