February may be the shortest month of the year, but this one was full of movement.
For both of us, exercise isn’t always simple. My fibromyalgia and my housemate’s physical limitations mean we have to look for what works—not what looks perfect. So we started swimming once a week in a warm-water pool.
And honestly… it helps.
In the water, movement feels safer. Lighter. More possible. For my housemate, it gives freedom without too much strain. For me, it’s a way to support her while also caring for my own body.
Physiotherapy brought more good news.
My pain has disappeared for now, which feels like such a relief. For my housemate, small changes in posture are already making a difference too. Less pain, more stability, and the hope that things will stay that way.
There were also important steps at her day care.
The occupational therapist looked closely at what she needs to sit safely and comfortably. A special chair and an adjustable table are now helping her take part with less pain. It took some organising—because of course nothing is ever completely simple—but with help from my mother, we made it work.
And that is often how care looks.
A problem.
A solution.
A few people stepping in at the right moment.
Her medical check-up also brought reassurance. Not everything was perfect, but nothing needed changing. With more movement now part of our routine, we hope her health will keep moving in the right direction.
February wasn’t without challenges. We also ended the month without a pedicure—but that story deserves its own blog.
Still, I look back with gratitude.
This month reminded me that change doesn’t always have to be big to matter. Sometimes it’s a warmer pool, a better chair, a small adjustment, or one person willing to help.
And those changes can quietly make life better.
To other caregivers reading this: how are you doing?
What helps you keep going?
Next month, I’ll share more about a new piece of technology in our home that may make our care situation a lot easier.
Until next time. 🤍
