Some months invite you to pause.

November is one of those months.

With the Day of the Caregiver as a reminder, it naturally becomes a time to reflect. Not just on the care you give—but on how you carry it. How it fits into your life, your work, your health.

And whether that balance still holds.

Because the truth is… it’s not always easy.

Slowing Down

Life looks different now.

Where there used to be long walks, photography outings, and busy days filled with plans, there is now more quiet. More space between moments. Less planning, more listening.

Each day starts with a simple question:

What is possible today?

And while I sometimes miss the pace I once had, there’s something valuable in this slower rhythm. A chance to really hear what my body is saying—and to respond to it.

A Week to Breathe

At the end of the month, I gave myself something I didn’t realise I needed so much.

Time.

After the trip in September and recovering from illness, my energy hadn’t fully returned. That week off became a turning point—a moment to stop pushing forward and simply be.

For the first time in a while, I went to see a doctor.

Not because something was wrong—but because I needed guidance.

A conversation that felt calm, understanding, and practical. We talked about something simple, yet often difficult: saying no. Setting boundaries. And giving myself permission to do so.

We also decided to pause my medication for menopause symptoms—for now. To see what my body does on its own.

It felt like a step into the unknown.

But also like the right one.

Rest and Self-Care

That week became about one thing:

Taking care of myself.

Slow mornings. No rushing. Letting the day unfold gently. Waking up around eight—not later, because even rest needs balance with fibromyalgia.

There was also a small outing.

A visit to a winter fair in Santpoort-Noord. A simple day—walking, looking around, sharing lunch. Nothing big. But exactly enough.

And then, something I don’t do often enough:

Choosing myself.

Facial treatments. A massage. Time spread out over several days, so my body could recover in between. Letting go of tension, even if just for a moment.

By the time I left the hairdresser, something had shifted.

Not just on the outside—but inside too.

A reminder:

Self-care isn’t a luxury.
It’s necessary.

Looking Ahead

Now, December is waiting.

But differently this time.

No pressure.
No full schedules.
Just quiet preparation for the holidays—on our terms.

Warmth.
Calm.
Space to enjoy what matters.

Closing Thoughts

November didn’t bring big changes.

It brought awareness.

A reminder to listen.
To pause.
To choose balance—again and again.

Because caring for others also means caring for yourself.

And maybe that’s the most important lesson of all.

We move forward—together. 🤍
