Some changes start small.
A different choice here. A new habit there.
And before you realise it… something bigger begins to shift.
That’s what 2024 has been for us.
A year of moving forward—together.
A Moment of Real Progress
At the beginning of November, we walked into the appointment with the practice nurse.
But this time… something was different.
Codee walked in.
Not in a wheelchair—but on her feet. With guidance, yes—but still, a moment that said more than any words could.
Since April, we’ve been changing things. Eating differently. Finding new ways to move. Not perfectly—but consistently.
And it shows.
When the results came in, the reaction said it all. Surprise. Pride. Recognition of the effort behind it. Living with Type 2 Diabetes has been part of daily life for so long—but now, for the first time, it feels like that story might change.
If this progress continues, there’s even a real chance that medication may no longer be needed.
And that… is something we don’t take lightly.
Finding Balance During the Holidays
December brought its own challenges.
Because let’s be honest—balance during the holidays isn’t always easy.
We enjoyed Christmas. Good food, shared moments, everything that makes those days special. But we also made a conscious choice: not everything, not all at once.
A little indulgence.
Followed by returning to what works.
And that balance made all the difference.
Looking back, we’re proud.
Both of us have lost 10 kilos this year. And more importantly—we feel better. Stronger. More in control.
The goal for 2025?
Continue.
Not by rushing—but by staying consistent.
A Month of Movement at Home
December wasn’t just about reflection—it was also about doing.
Work was busy, but the week off around Christmas gave us space to finally tackle things at home. Small projects that had been waiting.
A new desk for Codee—something she gave herself after 12 years of building a life here in the Netherlands. As she and our nephew put it together, I worked on the other side of the house. Tidying, rearranging, making space again.
Those quiet moments of working side by side… they matter too.
They’re part of building something together.
Looking Ahead
Now, the year is almost over.
A simple New Year’s Eve. No big plans, no pressure. Just something easy, something that fits. A homemade cake instead of tradition, and that feels exactly right.
Because we’ve learned something this year:
It doesn’t have to be the usual way to be a good way.
What’s Next
2025 is already waiting—with plans, ideas, and a few surprises.
A theatre visit.
A caregiving-free holiday.
Music.
Moments away, and moments close to home.
More experiences.
More balance.
More of what works for us.
Closing
This year wasn’t just about change.
It was about direction.
About choosing better.
Supporting each other.
And proving that progress—real progress—is possible.
Together, we move forward. 🤍
