In between the rain showers, I put on my walking shoes for a refreshing round through Dronten. Together with my mother’s boomer dog, I walked 12,990 steps — right through the village, nature, and along the water.

Starting in the centre, I crossed the bridge and followed the water towards the Wisentbos. The sky played along beautifully, with dramatic clouds and the occasional burst of sunlight breaking through.

Along the way, we came across all kinds of small moments: grazing cows, toads appearing after the rain, and the vibrant green of the forest everywhere around us.

Walks like this remind me how valuable it is to step outside, even close to home. Moving, breathing, and noticing what’s around you — it’s a simple but powerful form of self-care.

By the time we returned to the centre, I had a camera full of images, and a dog who had clearly enjoyed every second of the adventure. 🌦🐾🌳
